This Privacy Policy explains how Blueicon LTD ("Pala", "we", "us") collects, uses and protects your information when you use the Pala mobile app and website (together, the "Service").
1. Information we collect
- Account information: email address, display name, target language, level and learning goal.
- Voice recordings and text messages you send while using the Service, used to transcribe your speech and score your pronunciation.
- Usage data: messages sent, streak, session length, feature interactions and diagnostic logs.
- Device data: device type, operating system, app version and language settings.
2. How we use your information
- To provide and operate the Service, including generating replies from AI friends and scoring your pronunciation.
- To personalise your experience and adapt content to your level and goal.
- To improve the quality of our transcription, scoring and AI models.
- To communicate with you about your account, updates and support requests.
- To detect, prevent and address technical issues, fraud and abuse.
3. Legal bases (EEA/UK users)
We process your data under the following legal bases: performance of a contract, our legitimate interests in operating and improving the Service, your consent (where required) and compliance with legal obligations.
4. Sharing with third parties
We use trusted service providers to run Pala, including cloud hosting, speech-to-text and AI model providers, analytics and crash reporting. These providers process data on our behalf under appropriate contractual safeguards. We do not sell your personal information.
5. Data retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Voice recordings and chat history are retained to allow you to review your progress and may be deleted on request. Aggregated or anonymised data may be kept for longer.
6. Your rights
Depending on your location, you have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@joinpala.app.
7. Children
Pala is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect data from children below this age.
8. Security
We use technical and organisational measures designed to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. International transfers
Your information may be processed in countries outside your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be highlighted in the app or on this page.
